The School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University is host for WJEC-2. It is one of South Africa's oldest schools (founded in 1970) and is home to Highway Africa - the world's biggest annual gathering of African journalists.

Rhodes University is one of South Africa’s top public universities, with the country’s highest pro-rata research record. It has an enrolment of almost 7000 students, most of whom would be out of town during WJEC-2 (the period coincides with the mid-year break).

Ten percent of Rhodes students take courses in the School of Journalism and Media Studies across six different degree offerings. The School also operates a  wide range of outreach projects. Besides Highway Africa, these include the Grocott’s Mail newspaper (founded 1870), the Sol Plaatje Media Leadership Institute, the Knight News Challenge mobilephone citizen journalism project, and the Centre for Economics Journalism in Africa. For 13 years already, Rhodes JMS has successfully convened the Highway Africa conference of up to 700 delegates from 40 different African countries. We have expertise in all the logistical issues around organising a major international event.

The campus is an attractive, largely pedestrian, environment with fully equipped lecture and seminar venues offering wireless internet, data-projection, etc.
